Obverse: Conjoined bareheaded busts of King George V and Queen Mary, left. Half laurel on the right. Legend on the left: “KING GEORGE V. AND / QUEEN MARY”

Reverse: Surrounded by four rectangular shields, across: “1910”. The shields show the coats of arms of the territories forming the Union: Transvaal (top), the Orange Free State (right), the Colony of Natal (bottom) and the Cape Colony (left). In an arc above: “UNION OF SOUTH AFRICA” and below a wreath of the national flowers of the United Kingdom. Legend on a raised band: “. THE . OPENING . OF . THE . FIRST . PARLIAMENT . OF . THE .”

Notes: The arms of the Transvaal and the Orange Free State are the British colonial arms which had been modified from the original arms when they were republics.
