Obverse:

A stylised version of the emblem of the Society taken from the Natal coat of arms, a pair of wildebeests galloping to the left on a grassy plain with mountains behind. Legend above: “THE NATAL NUMISMATIC SOCIETY” and below between stars: “1955 – 2005”.

Reverse:

Field divided into quadrants by a Zulu assegai crossed with a knob kerrie. Top: “50 / YEARS”; left, old Natal coat of arms with: “1955 below; right, the new Kwa-Zulu Natal coat of arms with: “2005” below; bottom, the emblem of the Society.

Gold medal engraved “GRC (bottom, left) Au 375 (bottom, right)”. Silver medal stamped: “GRC (bottom, left) AG 999 (bottom, right)”

Notes:

The gold medal comes inside a transparent capsule within a blue case with a gilded pattern round the outside of the lid. The silver medal comes inside a red case with a gilded pattern round the outside of the lid. The base metal medals come inside gold-coloured cardboard boxes.
