Against a background of two concentric bands, the coat of arms of the Union of South Africa with motto: “UNITAE EX VIRES”. Signed: “P.M” at the bottom of the outer band. Outside and around on the left: “UNIE VAN SUID-AFRIKA” and on the right between stops: “UNION OF SOUTH AFRICA”

The medal with lug was given to school children.
The gilt medal has been privately converted into a masonic jewel. The suspension attachment has been engraved: "D.O.L. S.O.E." for an unknown lodge of the Sons of England.
