Within a circle of dots, a shield surmounted by a view of Table Mountain and flanked by palm fronds. On the shield, an anchor against a horizontal lined background with a book: "SPIES BONA" in front. Above that a crown and a lamp against a hatched background. On a ribbon below: FOUNDED 1829". Signed: "PINCHES LONDON" at the bottom. Legend, on a roughened band: "SOUTH . AFRICAN . COLLEGE" with an ornament at the foot.

Notes:

The South African College was founded in 1829 as a high school for boys. The College developed into a fully fledged university during the period 1880 to 1900. In 1918 the College separated into the South African College Schools and the University of Cape Town.
