Both medals issued inside a plastic capsule within an oblong blue velvet case lined on the inside with white silk and blue velvet. On the inside of the lid in gilt: "(coat of arms) / HER MAJESTY / QUEEN ELIZABETH / THE QUEEN MOTHER / Eightieth Birthday / Commemorative Medallion".
Gold medal accompanied by a certificate stating a maximum issue of 2,000.
Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon (1900 – 2002) was the wife of King George VI and the mother of Queen Elizabeth II. She visited South Africa on a Royal tour in 1947. She died aged 101.
