Obverse: Coat of arms of the City of Pretoria with castle crest, antelope supporters and motto on a ribbon below: “PRAESTANTIA.PRAEVALEAT.PRÆTORIA”. On three concentric arcs above: “Z.K.H. BERNHARD (protea flower on each side) / PRINS DER NEDERLANDEN / 25 SEPTEMBER 1954” and below:: “ANGEBODEN DOOR / DE NEDERLANDSCHE VEREENIGING (stops on each side) / NAMENS DE NEDERLANDSE GEMEENSCHAP TE PRETORIA (Presented by the Netherlands Association on behalf of the Dutch community of Pretoria)”.

Reverse: Blank. Stamped: "PHOENIX" at the foot of both medals and above that on the silver medal: "FINE SILVER".

Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands (1911 – 2004) was the husband of Queen Juliana. He was a supporter of South africa and visited Pretoria in 1954 for talks on economic and defense issues
