Obverse: Coat of arms of Oudtshoorn with griffin supporters and crown creast with motto: “MALO MORI QUAM FOEDARI” on a ribbon below.

Reverse: Two horizontal lines with an ornament in their middle. The silver medal stamped: ".925" and: S.A.M" below the lower line. Legend above: “OUDTSHOORN” and below: “1847 – 1947”.

Notes: Both medals issued in a square blue cardboard box with a green cardboard holder inside.

The town of Oudtshoorn is in the Little Karoo region of the Western Cape about 400 km east of Cape Town. The town is best known for ostrich farming and enjoyed a brief period of prosperity when ostrich feathers where fashionable.
