The visit to South Africa was part of a world tour of British Colonies to show Royal appreciation for their support during the Boer War.
Simon's Town is a town near Cape Town on the shores of False Bay, on the eastern side of the Cape Peninsula. The town is named after Simon van der Stel, an early governor of the Cape Colony. Simon's Town is an important naval base and home to the Royal Navy in South Africa at that time. The Royal ship the “Ophir” anchored there during the Royal couples’ visit.
