Issued without a ribbon inside a red fitted case lined with blue velvet with the Spink maker’s mark on the inside of the lid.
Presented to returning servicemen from volunteer Yorkshire Companies.
The type 1 medals were awarded to those who had served in the 3rd Imperial Yeomanry Battalion from 1900:
9th (Yorkshire (Doncaster)) Company, raised 1900; sponsored by Yorkshire Hussars
10th (Sherwood Rangers) Company, raised 1900
11th (Yorkshire) Company, raised 1900; sponsored by Queen's Own Yorkshire Dragoons

The type 2 medals were awarded to those who had served in the 3rd Imperial Yeomanry Battalion from 1901:

111th (Yorkshire Dragoons) Company, raised 1901
The type 3 medals were awarded to those who had served in the 66th (Yorkshire) Company with the 16th Imperial Yeomanry Battalion. The 66th Company was raised 1900 and co-sponsored by Yorkshire Hussars and Queen's Own Yorkshire Dragoons. The Company was transferred in 1902 to 3rd Battalion but it appears than none of its members was awarded a type 2 medal.
Hibbard gives estimates reported by Spink of the striking:
Type 1: 470
Type 2: 700
Type 3: 160
