Form: Circular holed at 12 o'clock. The ribbon is 7.5 cm long by 3.3 cm wide embroidered on beige silk and attached to the medal through a pair of link rings. The design from the bottom upwards: “GvR” monogram in red; “CORONATION JUNE 1911” in small blue letter

Edge: Plain.

Obverse: Conjoined crowned busts of the King and Queen, left, he robed. Legend in Gothic script: “T.M. King George V. – and – Queen Mary (ornament)”.


Reverse: On a shield, the coat of arms of Ladysmith (probably an invention) supported on the right by a draped female holding a laurel branch in her left hand, stepping over the barrel of a disused cannon with a broken wheel. Behind, the town hall and tree with hills in the distance. Below in the exergue: “FORWARD”. Legend on a raised pebbled band above: “THE BOROUGH OF LADYSMITH, NATAL” and below between stops: “CORONATION, JUNE 22. 1911”.

Notes: Ladysmith was besieged during the Boer War for 188 days between 30 October 1899 and 28 February 1900. The tower of the Town Hall (shown repaired in this medal) was damaged by artillery fire.
