Edge: Plain. Thickness 6.2 mm. Plain edge, stamped: “BRONZE”. The medals were awarded unnamed but some are found privately engraved. This medal: “CAPTN. J. ELLIOT LAMB, 6TH. MANCHESTER REGT.” in upright capital letters.

Obverse: The coat of arms of the society being a shield supported by Pegasus (left) add a lion (right) crested by the figure of Justice and the motto: “LEGES JURAQUE SERVAMUS” on a ribbon below. Legend on a raised band above: “THE.INCORPORATED.LAW.SOCIETY.OF.THE.UNITED.KINGDOM”, and between stops below: “1902”.

Reverse: Against a low-relief background of the national flowers of England (rose, middle), Scotland (thistle, right) and Ireland (shamrock, left)), across: “PRESENTED / BY / THE PRESIDENT OF THE SOCIETY, / SIR ALBERT KAYE ROLLIT, LLD., D.C.L., M.P., / AND / THE VICE PRESIDENT, / JOHN EDWARD GRAY HILL, ESQ., / TO / SOLICITORS AND ARTICLED CLERKS / WHO SERVED IN / THE SOUTH AFRICAN CAMPAIGN 1899-1902, / AND WHO WERE ENTERTAINED / BY THE SOCIETY, / AT A BANQUET, IN ITS HALL, / ON / DECEMBER 18TH, 1902. (in an arc)”.

Notes: Issued inside a fitted circular purple cardboard case.

About 150 people attended the banquet and it is assumed that the medals were presented to those able to attend. A total of 176 solicitors and articled clerks who had served in South Africa received the medal. The society produced a list their names which is given by Hibbard in appendix 13.

This medal was sold in September 2012 by Dix Noonan Webb for £420.
