Obverse: Conjoined crowned busts of the King and Queen, left, he in uniform. Signed: "LAUER" at the bottom. Legend: "EDW:VII BRITT:OMN.REX ET ALEXANDRA REG: 9TH. AUGUST 1902".

Reverse: Above, arms of the British South Africa Company with motto: “JUSTICE FREEDOM COMMERCE” and below, inclined arms of the Transvaal (left) and Orange River (right) colonies, named below, date: "1902" between. Decorated above with sprigs of rose, shamrock and thistle. Legend above: “UNITED SOUTH AFRICA” and below between 5-pointed stars: “PEACE WITH HONOUR”

Notes: The medal was made with the expectation that Rhodesia (then under the mandate of the British South Africa Company) would also be incorporated into South Africa.
