Edge: Plain.

Obverse: Crowned, veiled and robed bust of Queen Victoria, front and slightly to the left. Legend: “VICTORIA QUEEN AND EMPRESS.” Signed: “BROOKS & ADAMS” on the truncation of the shoulder.

Reverse: Within a beaded border round the rim, upright ornamental trident dividing the design vertically. Across, divided: “1837” and below that in larger letters: “1887”. On the left, a half wreath of roses, thistles and shamrocks enfolded with a ribbon: "INDIA / GREAT BRITAIN / NEW ZEALAND. On the right a half laurel wreath enfolded with a ribbon: "CANADA / AUSTRALIA / AFRICA". On the continuation of the ribbon across the bottom: "REJOICE IN UNITY".
