Within a cartouche, coat of arms of Natal, two wildebeests galloping to the right with hills behind. Below musical instruments and a score. Signed: “W.J.D.” at the foot.

Within a laurel wreath tied at the foot and a scroll above reading: “MUSIC & KINDRED ARTS” space for engraving the name of the recipient. stamped on reverse above scroll and Stamped above the scroll, the maker’s mark: “D.H&S” and silver hallmark for Birmingham 1914. Legend: “THE.NATAL.SOCIETY.FOR.THE.ADVANCEMENT.OF.MUSIC.” This medal engraved: "1ST PRIZE / Elocution / MAVIS WAYNE / 1914".
