Thomas Pringle (1789-1834) was born in Scotland and was one of the 1820 settlers in South Africa. His efforts as one of the first newspaper editors and journalists in South Africa failed because of censorship from the government. He is remembered for his poetry and writings about South Africa and his anti-slavery stand.
