Edge: Plain stamped with issue number.

Obverse: Bust of Jameson in jacket and tie facing slightly to the left. In an arc to the left: “LEANDER STAR JAMESON” and to the right: “1853-1917”. Signed: “W.M.” above the shoulder on the right. A ripple effect has been applied to the field.

Reverse: On the right, Jameson on horseback beside native huts. In the centre, a soldier hoisting the flag of the British South African Company (BSACo) to the top of a tree. Two more soldiers standing on the left. Below across: “LOBENGULA’S KRAAL / NOVEMBER 1893”. Signed: “W.M.” near the rim on the right. The silver medal has a sterling silver mark stamped at the foot.

Notes: The medals commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of Leander Starr Jameson.

Comes in a blue oblong case with: "LEANDER STARR JAMESON" in gilt on a red rectangular background. Also comes with a certificate from Export Products giving the issue number and stating that 55 medals were issued in 18ct gold and 310 twin sets in silver and bronze.

In the first Matabele War of 1893 Leander Starr Jameson attacked and occupied King Lobengula"s kraal at Bulawayo. Lobengula was forced to flee, and subsequently died, bringing to an end the Ndebele kingdom established by his father.
