Edge: Plain.

Obverse: Three soldiers kneeling on ground, rifles at the ready. Behind,two artillery pieces facing outwards. Above, two crossed British Union flag standards. Above that, within a wreath, crowned and veiled bust of Queen Victoria, left. Legend: "SOUTH (left) 1900(top) AFRICA (right)".

Reverse: Winged Victory flying right and looking backwards, trumpet horn in her left hand and an olive branch in her right. Below, an artillery piece and a pyramid of three rifles. Mountains behind. A blank exergue, except on the silver medal which has the maker's mark: "J.F." and Birmingham hallmarks for 1899-1900. Legend, above right: "VICTORY".
