Edge: Plain. Silver medal stamped: "(lion head) STG A (for 1974) S.A.M"

Obverse: Bareheaded bust of Dr Malan with spectacles, wearing jacket and tie, right. Signed: “T.S.” below bust on left.

Reverse: Facsimile handwriting, across: “Glo in God! / Glo in jou volk! / Glo in jouself! / D.F. Malam (Believe in God! Believe in your people! Believe in yourself)”. At the foot in an arc: “1874 – 1974”

Notes: The Gold, silver and bronze set comes in an oblong red-leather case lined on the inside with white silk and red velvet. On the outside of the lid in gilt: "D.F. MALAN / 1874-1944 / (powder horn - emblem of the National Party)" and on the inside: "SAM". The bronze medal also comes is a blue SA Mint cardboard box.

Dr. Daniel François Malan (22 May 1874 – 7 February 1959) was the Prime Minister of South Africa from 1948 to 1954. He was the leader of the National Party when it first came to power on the program of apartheid.
