Obverse: Woman seated, left, holding a radiant burning torch in her extended right hand and a scroll in her left. Legend above: “VOOR ALLEN (for all)”. In the exergue: “TOT NUT VAN / T ALGEMEEN (general public welfare)” and signed: “H.L. F” at the foot”

Reverse: Within a wreath of laurel (right) and palm (left) tied at the bottom: “25 / JAREN / BESTAAN / 1809 (divided downwards by) 11 16 (25 years standing)”. Signed round the rim at the foot: “H LAGEMAN FECIT”.

Notes: Maatschappij Tot Nut van ‘t Algemeen (Society for General Public Welfare) was founded in the Netherlands in 1784. In 1804 the Tot Nut van het Algemeen' School was established in Cape Town for the education of the Dutch population. The school existed until 1870.
