Obverse: Raised reeded rim. Within a beaded border around the rim, crowned gothic head of Queen Victoria, left. Signed: "OTTLEY, BIRMM." below the truncation. Legend: "H.M.G. MAJESTY (left) QUEEN VICTORIA (right)".

Reverse: Raised reeded rim. Front view of the exhibition building. Angel flying above, right, wreath in right hand, palm frond in left. Legend above: "THE INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION OF" and across below: "1862". In the exergue: "(ornament) OPENED 1ST. MAY 1862 (ornament) / DESIGNED BY / CAPTAIN FOWKE R.E. / ERECTED BY (in an arc) / MESSRS. KELK AND LUCAS (in an arc)". Signed below the exergue line: "OTTLEY BIRMM."

Notes: The 1862 International Exhibition was held from 1 May to 1 November, beside the gardens of the Royal Horticultural Society, South Kensington, London.

South Africa was represented only by Colony of Natal, the Cape Colony having refused to allocate funds. There were exhibits of agricultural products, notably from the rapidly growing sugar industry. Aspects of Zulu culture and the flora a fauna of Natal were on display.
