Obverse: Coat of arms of Pretoria with antelope supporters and castle crest with motto: “PRAESTANTIA PRAEVALEAT PRETORIA”.

Reverse: Across: “PRETORIA CITIZEN’S SERVICE MEDAL (in an arc) / GREAT WAR / 1914 - 1919 / (dash-dot-dash) / DIENST MEDALJE / VAN PRETORIA’S BURGERS / GROTE OORLOG (in an arc) / 1914 - 1919 (in an arc)”. Stops left and right.

Notes: The Pretoria City Council decided on 13 June 1919 to present a bronze medal to welcome and entertain all returning soldiers, nurses, sailors and airmen from the First World War. This medal was presented to each of them who attending the special civic ceremony at Burgerspark Pretoria on 4 August 1919.

A Memorial Card was also sent by the mayor to all relatives of those residents of Pretoria who fell in the war.
