The obverse legend correctly should read “D’KARNARVAN” and not “D’RARNARVAN”. 7428 Private John Williams is on the QSA roll of the Volunteer Service Company serving with the 1st Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers. He received the Cape Colony clasp. The headquarters of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers is in Carnarvon Castle where the Present Prince Charles was invested as the Prince of Wales as were other heirs to the throne before him. This medal was lot No. 794 on the Dix Noonan Webb auction of 13-14 Sept 2012 and sold for £3,300. |
